Historically there are two Saints named Valentine who were registered as being martyred on 14 February. As with many Saints, there are very few real and accurate historical information on which a debate can be structured. Two Valentines were; Saint Valentine of Rome and Saint Valentine of Terni.
o Valentine of Rome who was a doctor priest deemed to patients regardless of their ability to pay him serving. Valentine of Rome was martyred in 270 AD, and was awarded in sanctity performed the miracle of the restoration of sight to a blind girl.
o Valentine of Terni a Bishop who was persecuted and killed around AD200 by Emperor Aurelin.
Valentine today with its romantic connotations is widely considered to be be linked to the Saint Valentine of Rome, although there is little understanding of why Valentines is linked to the lovers of the. An explanation may be Valentine's name is derived from Latin meaning "valor" worthy, or it maybe is like a total different Valentine. The Valentinius of Alexandra influential (c. 100 - c 150) who taught that the marriage bed had a central role and hub of Christian love. The catalyst for Valentine's day this means a link to the month of February. This could be satisfied by the February 13-14, celebrated, Rome, as the Juno Februus "chaste juno" where Juno was a Roman goddess processed of great beauty.
Geoffrey Chaucer (poet) is credited with making the first link between Valentine and love and romance in his work written to commemorate the anniversary of the engagement between Richard II and Anne of Bohemia.
Valentine's Day celebration
The first tokens of affection were feathers, flowers and fern fronds. It is around the 16th century that religious souvenirs featuring the Sacré-coeur were introduced with the first of these courses of creation in the convents, French, German and Dutch. These nuns 'devotions' are the epitome of a token of love being lovingly created and provided with several updates for sale by the convent with charity. These devotions are widely recognized as being the precursors to many symbols associated with Valentines today - sacred hearts love nodes etc.
Prior to this, there is no "Valentines cards. Samuel Pepys, columnist, saves the gift of expensive items such as gloves, socks and jewellery as gifts for Valentines and his newspapers also mentions the few notes Valentines on blue paper. These references are since the 15th century, long before the convents produce the first coins "devotion" vellum or parchment.
With the progression of the industrial revolution, people had less time to devote to their own Valentines and industrial processes were able to mass-produce replacements per machine. Not all products Valentines were romantic. the advent of the industrial revolution has given rise to a different type of Valentine, the terrible penny or vinegar valentine. These were caused on paper cheap pulp and were often rough and vulgar.
S request of WWI saw stop much of the production of Valentin and that they would rematerialize once again, at least in the volume of mass, in 1930. Valentin has continued through WWII although they wore a much simpler and summarized message such as "for my love in the army". This simplicity has continued through periods of retrenchment after the war, and it may be that in the beginning of the 1970s that the revival of "romantic" imaging was reintroduced in the Valentines cards.
Today, it is estimated by the Association of the greeting card that approximately 1 billion cards are sent worldwide each February 14, which makes Valentin the opportunity to send to the second card in the calendar - the largest Christmas remaining. SCM also estimates that nearly 85 percent of all purchased cards are purchased by women. This colossal volume of sold cards and commercialization of Valentine's day pressure has earned him the tag to be "Hallmark holidays".
Today, Valentin is celebrated by gift cards and gifts or tokens of love, special meals and also a Valentine party most recently.
