VALENTINE / LOVE
Celebrated each year on February 14, Valentine's day or Valentine's day is the traditional day on which lovers to transmit their love to each other by sending Valentine's cards sometimes even anonymously. The most common feature of Valentin these days is the exchange of notes of love in the form of "Valentine". Popular modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, mass produced greeting cards have largely replaced handwritten notes. It is estimated that close to one billion Valentine cards are sent annually worldwide, only the second biggest party sending card next to Christmas. It is believed that women buy about 85 percent of all "Valentine".

Opinions differ on that Valentine. Start martyrologes mention at least three St Valentin under date of February 14. One is a priest in Rome, another Bishop of Interamna (now tarnished in Italy) and the other lived and died in Africa. Many, however, are of the opinion that the first two are the same person.
However, it is widely accepted that Valentine's day a possibly origin of the ancient Roman Feast of Lupercalia. A festival was held on 15 February in honour of one of their gods Lupercus, who was called by the Romans to avert the threats of these fierce wolves that roamed the adjacent forests. On the eve of the feast of Lupercalia, a love of the lottery was organized in which Roman girls names were written on scraps of paper and placed in jars. Each young man then calls a slip and the girl whom he took the name had to be his love for the year.
Subsequently, vacations became Valentine's day a priest named Valentine. At the time when Christianity was still a new religion, Valentine was a priest in Rome. Then the Emperor Claudius II had issued an order prohibiting the Roman soldiers to marry or commit. The Emperor believed that once that they married, his soldiers want to stay home instead of its wars. Valentine defied the Decree of the Emperor and secretly married young couples. He was finally arrested, imprisoned and beheaded on February 14, on the eve of Lupercalia. Valentine was appointed posthumously to a saint. As Christianity progressed in Rome, the priests moved the Lupercalia or spring break from February 15 to February 14, Valentine. Since the feast began honoring Valentine from Lupercus.

According to another story, Valentine was one of the first Christians who was seized and dragged before the prefect of Rome and imprisoned for helping some Christian martyrs. He healed daughter of blindness in prison warden. When the Emperor learned this miracle, he ordered the beheading of St. Valentine. Valentine is said to have sent daughter of goalkeeper, a signed farewell message "from your Valentine".
In 1969, in a larger effort to reduce the number of days of saint of purely legendary origin, the Church removed Valentine as a holiday of his calendar. Currently, February 14 is only dedicated to Saint Cyril and method of the Saint.
